Auditioning

Auditioning Folders

Audition your material via mouse hover + A on parent or child tracks. The folder under the mouse becomes the one you hear (the others are muted), any record-armed tracks are disarmed, and playback starts from the mouse position. Use hover + Shift+A to play back at a custom rate set via ReaClassical Preferences F5 (default x0.75). Use mixer mute and solo buttons to further customize what you hear. Hover over a reference track for easy A/Bing between your audio production and one or more reference audio files.

Tip

To quickly remove all record-arming in the project, use mouse hover + A or close the Record Panel.

Choosing the Folder from the Keyboard

You do not need the mouse to choose which folder you hear. Moving to a folder with Alt+↓, Alt+↑ or D (see Navigating a Project) makes it the audible folder, and Space plays and stops. Shift+Space plays and stops while moving the edit cursor with the playhead, and Ctrl+Shift+Space returns to the position where you last stopped.

Auditioning Around S-D Markers

Once you have set source and destination markers, you can hear them without moving the cursor. Each shortcut selects the relevant folder, makes it audible and plays a short segment:

Shortcut Plays
6 / 8 3 seconds from the destination IN / OUT marker
7 / 9 3 seconds from the source IN / OUT marker
Ctrl+6 / Ctrl+8 the 3 seconds up to the destination IN / OUT marker
Ctrl+7 / Ctrl+9 the 3 seconds up to the source IN / OUT marker
Alt+6 or Alt+8 from the destination IN marker to the destination OUT marker
Alt+7 or Alt+9 from the source IN marker to the source OUT marker

If a required marker is missing, ReaClassical says so. Starting a new audition stops any audition still playing. To compare takes before choosing source markers, see the Source Audition Manager (Z) in the Editing chapter.

Screen reader users (Clara)

All of these work with the keyboard alone and announce what they are doing, including a message when a marker is missing or when the OUT marker is not after the IN marker.
